The disposer 12 crushes and discharges garbage with a fixed blade 28 and a hammer 36 rotatably provided on a rotary plate 26 by a rotation of the rotary plate 26 by a motor 32. The disposer performs any of a normal operation mode crushing the garbage by a unidirectional high-speed rotation of the rotary plate 26, and a quiet operation mode in which a lower-speed rotation of the rotary plate 26 than that of the normal operation mode is carried out, and a positive rotation drive and a reverse rotation drive are repeated alternatively every setting time to crush the garbage, and at the same time, selects the normal operation mode or the quiet operation mode by a rotation operation of a lid 54.
