PURPOSE: To prevent deterioration of a phosphor caused by ultraviolet ray so as to enhance the lifetime and durability thereof by incorporating an ultraviolet absorbent into at least one of a luminous layer and a dielectric layer.
CONSTITUTION: An ITO transparent electrode 2 is formed on a transparent conductive glass plate 1, and then, is coated with luminous paint including an EL phosphor made of ZnS:Cu, Cl or the like, an ultraviolet absorbent and binder resin having a high dielectric constant, thereby forming a luminous layer 3. A dielectric layer 4 is formed on the layer 3, and further, a back plate 5 is formed thereon. The layers 3, 4, 5 are sealed by a glass plate 6 and a sealing agent 7, thus manufacturing a distributed EL element A. The dielectric layer 4 may include the ultraviolet absorbent. As for the luminous layer 3, it is preferable that the content of the ultraviolet absorbent is 0.1-10wt.% with respect to all solid components in the layer 3. As for the dielectric layer 4, the content is preferable to be 0.1-15wt.%.
