PURPOSE: To obtain a new disubstituted diphenylacetylene compound utilizable as a synthetic raw material for polymers or a raw material or an intermediate compound for medicines, agricultural chemicals, adhesives, etc.
CONSTITUTION: The objective compound of the formula (R1 is branched alkyl or trialkylsilyl; R2 is alkyl which may be substituted with a halogen, trialkylsilyl or the halogen, with the proviso that R2 is other than the halogen when R1 is the branched alkyl), e.g. 2,3'-bistrimethylsilyldiphenylacetylene. The compound of the. formula (R1 and R2 are other than trialkylsilyl group) is obtained by subjecting an R1-substituted phenylacetylene and an R2-substituted halogenobenzene to the Heck reaction in the presence of a palladium catalyst (preferably a 0-valent palladium-phopshine compound or a bivalent palladium- phosphine compound).
