To obtain a new DNA fragment, which is a minor component of pili of pathogenic pili forming bacteria capable of adhering to mammal tissues, used for producing vaccines for preventing bacteria infections and capable of encoding an antigenic determinant which induces an antibody capable of reacting with an adhesin.
This new DNA fragment is a minor component of pili of pathogenic pili forming bacteria capable of adhering to mammal tissues, enables bacteria to adhere, different from a principal subunit of a pili structure, capable of encoding an antigenic determinant of an adhesin-polypeptide which induces an antibody reacting with the adhesin-polypeptide, comprising a nucleotide arrangement expressed by the formula and useful for immunization of mammals and producing bacteria infection-protecting vaccines. The DNA fragment is obtained by fragmentizing a chromosome DNA extracted from adhesin- polypeptide-producing bacteria by treating the chromosome DNA with a restrictive enzyme, introducing the fragment into host cells after combining in a vector and selecting a positive clone by screening.
