To eliminate convergence of a document due to conveying resistance in a document feeder with a conveyor belt for conveying the document upon holding it in a gap with a flat surface.
A conveyor belt 30 is made up of a rubber belt whose surface is not coated. Many crimps 31 and grooves 32 due to these crimps are formed on a surface at the side in contact with a document. A pattern 33 consisting of these crimps and grooves 31 and 32 is formed into symmetrical patterns being chevroned as bent once at the center after being angled in bordering a nearly central part in the traveling direction of the conveyor belt 30. Since it is made up of central symmetrical patterns, such individual component forces as trying to converge the conveyor belt 30 are offset with one another, so that convergence is not produced in the document being conveyed.
