PURPOSE: To prevent the disarrangement of the discharged documents due to the collision with a document tray and the bending of the document by installing a control means which decelerates the document discharge speed and suspends the top edge of the document downward before the top edge of the discharged document intrudes under the document tray.

CONSTITUTION: As for a space economization type document feeding device in which a document tray 11 is installed over a device body and a paper discharge tray 12 is installed between the body below the document tray 11, a control means for decelerating the discharge speed of the discharged document before at least the op edge of the document which is discharged from the third transport means 60 intrudes at least to the underside of the document tray 11, viewed from the nearly vertical direction, is installed. Accordingly, the discharged document can be accommodated surely into the paper discharge tray 12, and the disarrangement of the discharged documents due to the connection with the document tray is prevented, and the top edge of the discharged document is prevented from being damaged.
