PURPOSE: To quickly and easily retrieve end display the documents in a client- server type document retrieving system where the document data base and the user terminal are defined as a server and a client respectively.
CONSTITUTION: A document retrieving/displaying device 101, a document display data base 103 and a document retrieving data base 108 are connected together via a communication circuit 102. The screen of the device 101 consists of a retrieving screen, a reservation retrieving screen, a field designating screen, an index display screen, 8 display contents designating screen, a layout display screen, an item display screen, etc. In such a constitution, a user is not required to be conscious of a specific device that stores the document to be retrieved. Then the user can retrieve his desired documents with the bibliographic items and the text contents mixed together and can see the retrieving results in various display forms such as an item display form, a layout display form, etc. Thus the relative information can be easily retrieved.
