Abstract:
PURPOSE: To sense accurately whether any document sheet exists in the condition a document cover is left open, and also have accurate document sensing while influence of external light is nullified.
CONSTITUTION: Document sheets 3 are placed on the document table 2 of the body 1 of a copying device, and a sensing switch 6 senses that a document cover 4 has inclined to a certain specified angle 9 on its way of shutting from above, and therewith a light emitting element 51 of a distance measuring sensor 5 is driven. The light from this element 51 is cast onto the document 3 or the cover 4, and the reflected light is received by a light receiving element 52, and signals (I1, I2) according to the point of light reception are emitted, and on the basis thereof the distance L1 or L2 from the sensor 5 to the document 3 or cover 4 is determined. Existence of document is judged on the basis of the measurement, and a copying control according to the judgement passed is executed. If therein any external light, etc., is received by the light receiving element, the output therefrom goes beyond the specified extent, to lead to judgement that no document sheet lies on the corresponding sensor for distance measurement, and processing takes place accordingly.
