To provide a door operating apparatus which can be unlocked while ensuring its security even in the event of a power failure or the like.

The door operating apparatus consists of an opening/closing means 2, an unlocking means 24 which is comprised of an identifying section 4, an electric lock 3, and a control section. The control section executes identifying operation of a specific person, and electrically unlocks or locks a door 8 depending on a result of the identifying operation. The unlocking means 24 mechanically unlocks the door 8 in the event of a power failure or the like. The door operating apparatus further includes a mechanical alarm section connected to an operating section, and the alarm section issues a warning sound upon operation of the operating section.
