To provide a double-deck elevator capable of suppressing the partial deterioration of an interval adjusting apparatus adjusting an interval between an upper car and a lower car and preventing the deterioration of the riding comfort of a passenger.
The double-deck elevator includes a drive command means (16) driving a hoisting machine 7 which drives a rope 6 hanging the upper car 4 and the lower car 5 beyond a normal adjustment interval when the elevator is not used by the passenger. This configuration can diffuse a local burden on the rope, the hoisting machine 7 and car pulleys 4P, 5P around which the rope 6 wound, etc. and thus, can suppress partial deterioration. By driving the rope 6 beyond the adjustment interval, dust adhered to the rope 6 can be removed by drawing the rope 6 by a sheave 8 and the car pulleys 4P, 5P. As a result, the deterioration of the riding comfort caused by dust adhesion can be prevented.
