Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a tensioning device which is simple and not bulky and is suitable for the use together with a safety belt for passenger by constituting in such a way that an air storage tank forms a part of inertia mass in the tensioning device including a speed change response means. CONSTITUTION: An air storage tank 2 is pushed to the right by force of an ordinary spring 19. In case of extreme deceleration of a vehicle, for example, an accident including collision, the air storage tank 2 forms a part of a speed change response means and moves to the left in a housing 5 against the spring 18 as a result of its inertia force. When the air storage tank 2 performs a motion of about 1 to 2 mm, stored pressure medium is immediately released to act on the whole operation surface 25 of a piston member 28, the action of gas is increased by about 10 times, and the piston 28 is speedily driven to the left to move a tensioning cable 13. A ratchet device formed by a claw 4a and a rack 4 keeps a safety belt in a condition in which it is stretched fully and tightly. Consequently, it is possible to obtain a tensioning device which is simple and is not bulky.
