A plurality of drive devices for suction/exhaust valves are provided on an internal combustion engine. The drive device is equipped with an electromagnetic drive valve mechanism for carrying out opening/closing operation of the suction/exhaust valve by cooperation between the electromagnetic force of an electromagnet for maintaining the suction/exhaust valve at a full open position in which the suction/exhaust valve is fully opened and at a full close position in which the valve is fully closed and the restoring force of a magnet biasing the suction/exhaust valve in the midpoint position between the full open position and the full close position, and with a valve stop control means for stopping supply of current to at least one electromagnet at different timing from the supply of current to another electromagnet each valve of a plurality of suction/exhaust valves or each valve group separated into specified groups of a plurality of suction/exhaust valves.
