In driving a display panel of a timepiece by a drive device, the method includes a gray level drive step so that, during the gray level driving, display is changed in the display panel based on the display color difference in a gray level state which is not a saturation state. By carrying out the gray level driving, the display change time can be significantly reduced when display is frequently changed, particularly when continuous change is required. Further, this method also reduces the power consumption compared with always driving the display in a saturation state.
