The main rope 40 of the elevator hangs a car and a counterweight and is wound around a drive sheave 10. A sheave groove 12 having a groove inner surface covered by a lining material 30 is formed on the drive sheave 10 in a circumferential direction. The sheave groove 12 has a cross section having a circular arc shape. Two relief grooves 20 extending over a whole circumference in the circumferential direction is formed at a position away from the deepest portion 14 of the sheave groove 12. The two relief grooves 20 are positioned on both sides of the deepest portion 14 to sandwich the deepest portion 14.
