Abstract:

PURPOSE: To suppress dispersion of accumulated quantity due to a mounting position of an accumulation base so as to provide a carbon and metal complex having uniform accumulated quantity and quality, by carrying out accumulation process during movement of the accumulation base by a vapor phase accumulation method.
CONSTITUTION: A nickel powder compact 4' is mounted on a transfer belt 8 in a reaction pipe 17. A heating furnace 29 is formed along the periphery of the reaction pipe 17. Temperature of the compact 4' is raised upto the reacting maximum temperature 800°C by means of the heating furnace 20 while moving it through the transfer belt 8. Moving speed is set so that the carbon accumulation reaction time may last for 5 hours. Through this step, benzene fed from a 'PYREX(R)' glass pipe 16 is thermally decomposed for accumulating carbon body on the surface of nickel powder. Mass-productivity is improved and loss of heat energy and raw gas is reduced to stably provide electrodes having constant performance at low cost and in a large quantity.
