CONSTITUTION: A driver characteristic recognizing device is constituted of a control quantity detecting means detecting a control quantity of vehicle driving control means, for instance, a stepping amount of a brake pedal, clutch pedal, etc., and the others and a driver characteristic decision means evaluating the characteristic of a driver from the characteristic of the detected control quantity, for instance, from a length of time required for changing the above described pedal stepping amount. Accordingly, by this device, the characteristic of the driver in his skillfullness of driving and familiarization or the like for a vehicle can be recognized, in its turn being based on this result, for instance, by decreasing an engine output and so on, an acceleration response to the step-in operation of an accelerator pedal can be automatically moderated.
