As illustrated in Fig.(a), a course estimation curved line 5a and a guide line 5b obtained by extending both sides of a vehicle in parallel are displayed overlapping on an rear image as assistance for backing and parking a vehicle 1 at a parking position 40. It is possible to check a direction of the vehicle by the guide line 5b. It is possible to switch the display between as illustrated in Fig.(b) (only the course estimation curved line 5a is displayed over the rear image) and as illustrated in Fig.(c) (only the rear image is displayed). If a driver selects a display state which is easy to see, the selected state can be stored and reflected on a switch state for a next parking assisting operation.
