To provide a driving circuit which allows the number of gray-scale levels to be increased without increasing the number of scan lines and a display including the driving circuit, and to provide a method of driving a display which allows the number of gray-scale levels to be increased without increasing the number of scan lines.

There is provided a driving circuit driving pixels provided with a built-in memory including an electro-optical device. The driving circuit divides one frame period into a plurality of subframes composed of a plurality of subfields corresponding to respective bits of gray-scale data and having period lengths commensurate with weights of the corresponding bits. On a subframe by subframe basis, the driving circuit selects scan lines whose number is less by one than a number of the subfields included in a relevant subframe, and again selects one of the selected scan lines during a same subframe period.
