The control unit supplies the pressure medium to a pressure chamber 150 and/or a pressure chamber 151 so as to engage a lockup clutch 120, or adjusts the torque capable of being transmitted by the lockup clutch 102. The lockup clutch 102 is engaged freely to be slid by an engine driven when the vehicle is braked, and the torque is transmitted through a torque converter in a first torque transmitting route, and the torque is transmitted through a lockup clutch 102 in a second transmitting route.
