To provide a new drug preparation for the oral cavity, especially in relation to the health care of the mouth, which is suitable for the therapy of animals, especially pet animals such as dogs and cats.
This preparation has the following constitution: the preparation is composed of a chewable solid part and one or more reservoir parts surrounded by the chewable solid part; the chewable solid part is made of a completely edible substance which has mechanical characteristics useful for promoting mastication and features having a rigidity measured value (i.e., Young's modulus) of 0.01-5 MPa and a compressive strength of 10 to 10, 000 mJ; the one or more reservoir parts are composed of the unit dosage of a releasable drug in the form of a fluid (preferably a liquid) having <800 mPa.s, preferably 50-200 mPa.s of viscosity at bodily temperature (about 36-40°C); and therefore the above chewable part bursts and the unit dosage of a drug is released from the one or more reservoir parts into the oral cavity for a short time when being chewed.
