Abstract:

To provide a unique two-stage tire building drum with which a comparatively small tire carcass having a large diameter can be manufactured.

A rotatable tire building drum 10 includes a pair of axially and radially movable bead locks 20, and a radially expandable center building deck assembly 40 including two pairs of deck plates 42, 44 forming a 360 degree continuous deck surface when expanded. Each of the deck plates 42, 44 is abutted on a completely expanded diameter and forms a continuous 360 degree building face, and is formed to a size to support the tire carcass 2 at a prescribed part of the diameter.
