To efficiently wash clothing such as wool, or the like, susceptible to damage due to the mechanical forces during washing, without being damaged.
A drum 13 is rotated at a speed in which clothing S rolls at the inside bottom so as not to be imparted with an excessive mechanical force but to be imparted with an appropriate mechanical force and to appropriately exchange the upper and lower clothing. In this case, a hollow baffle 15 having water holes 16 through which water passes is provided in the inner peripheral part of the drum 13. The rotational speed of the drum 13 is set so that water enters from the water holes 16 into the baffle 15 and is discharged downward from the water holes 16 when the baffle 15 reaches the top. In this way, water in the drum 13 is well circulated and supplied on a part exposed above the water level to wash stains out.
