To provide a drum type washing machine 100 capable of optimizing the quantity of water supply in a washing process according to the quality and quantity of laundry cloth despite a simple constitution.
This drum type washing machine is provided with: a drum 3 supported rotatably about a horizontal or inclined axis in a water tub 2; a water supply mechanism 5 supplying water at a predetermined flow rate for soaking the laundry in the drum 3 in water; a motor 4 for rotatingly driving the drum 3; an inertial measurement part 73 measuring inertia-related values directly or indirectly indicating the inertia to the motor rotation; a rotating speed retention part 72 controlling the motor 4 to drive at a rotation speed, where the laundry is stuck to the internal circumferential face of the drum 3, or more; a saturation determination part 74 for determining a time point when the laundry becomes a water soaking saturated state based on a variation of the inertia-related values relative to the water supply time; and a water supply mechanism control part 75 starting the continuous or intermittent water supply under the operation of the rotating speed retention part 72 and, after starting the water supply, stopping the water supply at a time point when the saturation determination part 74 determines the water soaking saturated state or at a predetermined time lapse after the determination time point.
