To heat washing liquid while preventing overheating of heating means, and allow the washing liquid to rapidly infiltrate clothing, thereby enhancing cleaning effects.
The drum-type washing machine comprises: heating means 17 placed in the bottom of a water tank 2 for heating washing liquid; a circulation route 22 for circulating the washing liquid from the bottom of the water tank 2 into a drum 7; a circulation pump 18 provided within the circulation route 22; and control means 24 for activating the heating means 17 and the circulation pump 18 and controlling the operation. In the step of heating the washing liquid with the heating means 17, the control means 24 alternately operates the heating means 17 and the circulation pump 18. The washing machine thus heats the washing liquid while preventing the heating means 17 from being overheated, and also allows the washing liquid to rapidly infiltrate the clothing, thereby enhancing cleaning effects.
