To prevent water leak as a packing member does not come off even when an operation is performed with laundry being pinched by a lid body.
A drum type washing machine includes: a front plate 13 which is provided at an inner part of a front surface of a body 1 and which has an opening 14; a lid body 9 which openably/closably covers the opening 14 of the front plate 13; an inner lid 21 which is provided at the lid body 9 and which protrudes inward in the opening 14 of the front plate 13; and a packing member 16 which is made of an elastic material connecting the opening 14 of the front plate 13 and an opening 15 of a water tub 5. The packing member 16 has a lip part 16a which comes into contact with the inner lid 21 and seals it when the lid body 9 is closed. The lip part 16a protrudes inward in the opening 14 of the front plate 13, and it is formed in such a manner that the thickness becomes thinner as approaching the tip of the lip part 16a. Thereby, when an operation is performed while laundry is mistakenly pinched between the lid body and the packing member, only a thin wall part of the lip part is cut off, so that a large water leak caused by the packing member coming off can be prevented from occurring.
