To avoid abnormal vibration of a rotating drum because of the imbalance of clothes and to maintain a stable rotation for dewatering.
The drum type washing machine includes a revolution sensor 33 which detects the number of revolutions of the rotating drum 3, a current sensor 35 which detects conducting electric current of a drum driving motor 7 and a controller 31 which controls the drum driving motor 7 on the basis of the sensed number of revolutions and the sensed electric current value. The controller 31 stores the sensed electric current value for each of predetermined several numbers of revolutions during the dewatering process. It compares the difference value which is the result of subtraction of sensed electric current value of the stored previously set number of revolutions from the sensed electric current value and the sensed electric current value of the set number of revolutions, the previously set upper limit electric current value and the upper limit difference value for each of set numbers of revolutions on the second time or later and controls the transition to a next high-rotative-speed dewatering only when the value does not exceed the upper limit value. Consequently, the number of revolutions of the rotating drum is gradually increased and rotation control of the drum driving motor 7 is performed in accordance with the state of vibration of the rotating drum 3 with the set number of revolutions at each stage. In this manner, abnormal vibration of the rotating drum 3 because of imbalance of the clothes is avoided and a stable rotation is maintained.
