To provide a dryer controller for a paper machine which is capable of detecting rimming state in the interior of a dryer roll during operation of a paper machine line by simple constitution.

The dryer controller is provided at the paper machine line and includes the dryer roll 2 for transporting a sheet material 1 to the next step while drying the sheet material with steam injected into the interior, an electric motor 3 for driving the dryer roll 2, a driving controller 5 for carrying out feedback control of the electric motor 3 with reference to torque on the basis of a speed command value for the electric motor 3, and mechanical loss memorizing means 11 for memorizing the mechanical loss torque required by the electric motor 3 to drive the dryer roll 2 in which the drain is not collected in the interior. The milling state in the interior of the dryer roll 2 is determined on the basis of the speed command value, a torque command value in the driving controller 5, and the mechanical loss torque.
