To provide a dryer for paper machines capable of producing a sheet of paper improved in printability by forming vacuum rolls into crowned convex vacuum rolls having a convex diameter and uniformizing the shrinkage factor in the paper width direction of a wet web.
This dryer for paper machines comprises vacuum rolls 3 formed into crowned vacuum rolls having a convex diameter so as to further preferably make the crowned vacuum rolls draw a curve of the formula [P is (1/2) the extent of the crown; L is the face length (the length in the shaft direction) of the vacuum rolls; Y is the distance from the crown working center line to a point P in the shaft direction; X is the crown height at the point P] when a wet web 1 is accompanied with a canvas, successively revolved and run through plural dryer rolls 2 having a heating means in the interior and the vacuum rolls 3 and dried. Furthermore, the crowned vacuum rolls are preferably installed within the range of a part with 30% moisture content to a dry end in a drying process for the wet web 1.
