PURPOSE: To eliminate the property difference between the top and the reverse surfaces and to save the installation space by alternately drying both surfaces of a paper.

CONSTITUTION: A plurality of hot drums 10 are arranged slantly downward from the upstream side to the downstream side in the line direction 9 to form hot drum groups 11, 12, 13,14, which are arranged in plural stages in the line direction 9. A suction canvas roll 15 is placed on the upstream side between the adjacent hot drums 10, 10 among the hot drums 10 constituting the hot drum groups 11-14 of each stage. An endless long canvas sheet 17 is extended between the hot drum groups 11 and 13 positioned at every other stage and endless short canvas sheets 20, 21 are separately extended between the remaining hot drum groups 12, 14. Paper-receiving plates 22, 23 extending slantly downward nearly parallel to the hot drum groups 12, 14 are placed on the upstream side of each of the hot drum groups 12, 14 holding the short canvas sheets 20, 21.
