To provide a drying method of a water-soluble cellulose ether which does not require a broad floor space for a drier, has good thermal efficiency to permit cost reduction, and permits prevention of deterioration in qualities by controlling the water content of the water-soluble cellulose ether.
The drying method of the water-soluble cellulose ether comprises continuously throwing the water-soluble cellulose ether having a water content of 40-90 mass% into a container of a ditch-type stirring drier and continuously drying it by rotating rotor blades while heating them at 100°C or higher in the container. The water-soluble cellulose ether is preferably at least one selected from the group consisting of methyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose and hydroxyethyl methyl cellulose.
