To provide a dust treatment method which recovers a useful component from dust by a single process and enables thus recovered component to be effectively utilized as a non-ferrous smelting raw material, a fertilizer raw material, or a halogen raw material.
In the dust treatment method, dust from a cement kiln or an incinerator is mixed with water. A pH adjusting agent is added to the resultant mixture to adjust its pH to 10 or higher. Then, an anion species which generates an insoluble calcium salt coprecipitating with a heavy metal is added to or formed in the mixture, and this mixture is settled. Thus, a dissolved heavy metal having a solubility equal to or lower than that of a hydroxide or a carbonate is removed from the mixture by coprecipitation.
