To control the bending vibration of a vehicle body by causing its deformation in the direction perpendicular to the vibrating direction between a holding member to hold the resilient pieces and slidably arranging the holding member to deform resilient pieces with a comparatively small force.
This dynamic vibration absorber 25 is mounted on a vehicle body 12 in its central part about the longitudinal direction. In this vibration absorber 25, the hang-down position in X-direction of an additional mass 26 remains unchanged when the spring constants of resilient pieces 35 and 36 are to be changed by an actuator 32, so that the spring constants can be changed to any desired value by deforming the resilient pieces 35 and 36 without generating extra distortion in a guide rod 41. Also when the resilient pieces 35 and 36 are to be deformed by compressing in the X-direction, a holding plate 34 for the resilient pieces 35 and 36 is moved by the reaction force of the deforming try, so that the two resilient pieces 35 and 36 can be compressed with equal force, which allows setting of the spring constants of the resilient pieces 35 and 36 to the same value and permits the driving force of the actuator 32 to remain small.
