Abstract:

To obtain an eddy current type reduction gear in which brake torque is enhanced by coupling an annular good conductor to the end part of a brake drum while cooling the annular conductor effectively.

The eddy current type reduction gear comprises an iron brake drum 13 coupled with a rotary shaft through a plurality of supporting arms 12, and a magnet supporting tube 19 disposed in the brake drum 13 oppositely to the inner circumferential surface 13c thereof while being arranged with a large number of magnets 20 at a constant interval in the circumferential direction. The brake drum 13 is coupled, at least to one end wall face thereof, with an annular good conductor 41 having U-shaped cross-section such that the inner circumferential surface thereof is continuous to the inner circumferential surface 13c of the brake drum 13 but does not face the magnet 20. The annular conductor 41 is provided with a port 51 for introducing the air into a cavity 44 formed between the end wall face 13d of the brake drum 13 and the annular conductor 41, and a port for discharging the air from the cavity.
