PURPOSE: Curved edge of moving steel material is automatically measured by providing equipments with functions to detect steel location at the measuring time and edge condition, to memorize its location and to calculate curved condition.
CONSTITUTION: Conveyor 6 transfers steel material 1, the location of which is successively detected by detector 7. Three or more of edge detectors 8 are installed on the reference line RL at right angle to material transfer, so that when the steel passes the line RL, its edge can be detected by the edge detectors 8. The location of the steel material 1 is memorized by the same number of registers 9 as that of the edge detectors 8 at the instant when the edge detector is on-condition. The length and ratio of material curvature 1-1 is calculated 10 through the content of the registers 9 and the distances to the edge detectors 8.
