Title:
ELECTRIC DISCHARGE MACHINING METHOD FOR INSULATING CERAMICS
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3633989
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To perform electric discharge machining insulating ceramics at a high speed in high accuracy irrespective of the kid of the insulating ceramics, by using ceramics formed with a metal layer wherein conductive carbide can be formed in a surface of the insulting ceramics.
CONSTITUTION: Electric discharge machining insulating ceramics 1 is performed in insulating oil. Here is thermally decomposed machining oil to produce carbon, and reaction of the carbon and an element, contained in the insulating ceramics 1 or conductive substance 2 to be capable of forming conductive carbide, is performed to form a conductive carbide layer. By sticking this layer to a surface of the insulating layer 1 or by impregnating it with this layer, electric discharge machining can be effectively performed. The conductive substance 2 only plays a role of trigger of starting an electric discharge, and maintaining it thereafter to make electric discharge machining capable is the conductive carbide. The element, contained in the insulating ceramics 1 to form the conductive carbide, is connected to carbon, produced by decomposing machining oil, to form conductive carbide.
