PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain the steering feeling of a driver in a comfortable state in an electric power steering device.
SOLUTION: A part 43 for converting torque to command current converts a steering torque TM detected by a steering torque sensor 21 to a command current value I* for an electric motor 14, and a drive control part 44 drives and controls the electric motor 14 in compliance with the command current value I*. A differential part 51, a control quantity determining part 52, and an adding part 42 calculate the differential value of the steering torque TM, and provide a light steering operation of a handle at the start of steering operation by adding an inertia compensating control quantity TM' to the steering torque TM in compliance with the calculated differential value. The sense of incongruity of a steering feeling due to the difference in the steering speed is avoided by such that a steering speed calculating part 63, a voltage detecting part 64, and a current detecting part 65 detect a steering speed ω, and a gain calculating part 62 and a adding part 55 lessen the inertia compensating control quantity TM' as the steering speed ω becomes larger.
