PURPOSE: To provide an electric vacuum cleaner capable of controlling the power consumption of a motor-driven blower without deteriorating the service life, efficiency and power factor of the commutator and the brush of the motor- driven blower and without generating noise and vibration.
CONSTITUTION: This electric vacuum cleaner is constituted by providing a pressure detection means 10 for detecting pressure inside the dust collection room of the electric vacuum cleaner, a current detection means 5 for detecting a current made to flow to the motor-driven blower 3 and a microcomputer 11 for obtaining a suction air rate from the detected pressure, comparing a difference between the target power consumption value of the motor-driven blower 3 set beforehand from the suction air rate and the power consumption obtained from the detected current and controlling an energizing stopping period so as to equalize the power consumption with the target power consumption value.
