Title:
ELECTRIFYING DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3138345
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To uniformly electrify an image carrier by setting a voltage applied to a contact member to a value higher than a discharge initiating voltage from a contact, and by setting the outer diameter of the contact so as to be larger than the particle size of toner particles.
CONSTITUTION: An electrifying roller (contact member) 5 is composed of a conductive shaft 5c on which a conductive fiber fabric 5a is spirally wound and, the trailing end of the fabric 5a is cut so as to obtain a desired diameter. The charge roller 5 is applied with a voltage higher than a discharge initiating voltage from a contact (a filament formed of a conductive fiber) 5b. Further, should toner 30 be stuck to the photosensitive medium 1 when the outer diameter of the contact 5d is smaller than the particle size of the toner 30, the toner 30 would be caught between the contact 5d and the photosensitive medium 1 so that parts of them which can never be in contact with each other are present. In these parts, a charge implanting phenomenon cannot occurs, and further, a discharge phenomenon around the contact point is hindered. Thus, the diameter of the contact 5d is increased in order to prevent occurrence of the above-mentioned problems.
