Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide an electrochromic display element containing a specific novel electrochromic material, leaving little or no color when erased, having high color density, and capable of accepting various kinds of solvents and developing the color over a wide voltage range.
CONSTITUTION: The objective display element contains the electrochromic liquid obtained by dissolving (A) the compound of formula [R1 is (substituted) phenyl, alkyl, benzyl, cyano, or aryl condensed with phenyl bonded to the same C atom; R2 and R3 are (substituted) phenyl; R4 is H, halogen, alkyl(amino), or alkoxy; n is 0W2] and (B) a supporting electrolyte (e.g. AgClO4, LiClO4, etc.), in (C) an aprotic polar solvent such as DMF.
