PURPOSE: To prevent the performance of an electrochromic display element from deterioration due to the deterioration of an electrolytic solution by penetrating a metallic pipe into a metallic body of a container to be used as a housing on the opposite electrode side through an insulating substance layer, injecting the electrolytic solution from the metallic pipe and welding the pipe to seel it after the injection.
CONSTITUTION: An opposite electrode substance 3 on the opposite electrode side is obtained by adding and mixing a conductive assistant and a binding agent to/with an opposite electrode material consisting of iron tungstate and pressing these mixture to the surface of an opposite electrode 4 consisting of a wire gauge or the like. The container 5 as the housing of the opposite electrode side is constituted by penetrating the metallic pipe 5c to be used as a lead body of the opposite electrode 4 into the metallic body 5a through the insulating substance layer 5b and the opening end part of the container 5 is formed like a collar and fixed on a display electrode 1b of a display substrate 1 with a conductive bonding agent 6. The metallic pie 5c fitted to the body 5a of the container 5 through the layer 5b is used as an injection port of the electrolytic solution 7 at the assembling of the electrochromic display element and then the external and part of the display element is welded and seeled by a laser method or the like.
