PURPOSE: To provide an electrochromic element which is low in cost, hardly causes deterioration and capable of using an arbitrary substrate material and to improve the productivity.

CONSTITUTION: In the electrochromic element in which at least electrochromic layer 3 and a couple of electrode layers 2 and 4 holding the electrochromic layer there between are laminated on a substrate 1 and a low resistant take-out electrode 5 is formed at a part of each electrode layers 2 and 4, respectively, the low resistant take out electrode 5 is composed of a three laminated films of the first electrode layer/the second electrode layer/the third electrode layer formed by a vacuum thin film forming method. And, the first and third electrode layers are composed of at least one material among Cr, W, Ta, Mo and Ti, and the second electrode layer is composed of at least one material among Al, Cu and Ni.
