Abstract:
PURPOSE:To produce an electrode for electrolysis which exectes electrolysis of low-concn. salt water with high-current efficiency by forming an alloy coating consisting of specific ratios of Pt, Pd and Ru on a corrosive metallic base body and converting part of metals except Pt to oxide. CONSTITUTION:The soln. contg. Pt, Pd, Ru or the salt formed by thermal decomposition of Ru and Ir is coated on the corrosive metallic base body and is dried, then the base body is subjected to a heating treatment in an Ar atmosphere to form the alloy coating consisting of 10-50% Pt, 10-30% Pd, and the balance Ru or the alloy consisting of Ru and Ir based on the weight of the metals. Ti, Ta, Nb, Zr or the alloy thereof is used for the corrosive metallic base body. The base body is heated for about >=1hr at 500-800 deg.C in an oxidizing atmosphere to convert at least 30% of the metals except Pt to oxide, then the base body is slowly cooled at about 20 deg.C/hr. The electrode for electrolysis which has low chlorine generating potential, generates oxygen at a lower ratio and has a long life is thereby obtd.
