Title:
ELECTRODE FOR FUEL CELL AND MANUFACTURE OF ELECTRODE FOR FUEL CELL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3564975
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure sufficient gas diffusibility and sufficient ion conductivity in a catalyst electrode used in a fuel cell.
SOLUTION: A catalyst electrode 23 comprises catalyst groups 30 and electrolyte groups 32 connected and intertwined with each other. Each catalyst electrode group 30 is formed of aggregated plural pieces of catalyst carrying carbon 36 and their surfaces are covered with an electrolyte layer 38. Each electrolyte group 32 is formed of aggregated electrolytes. Ions are supplied to each catalyst via the electrolyte layer 38 for electrochemical reaction, but a passage of ions moving from the electrolyte film side to the gas diffusion layer side is secured by the electrolyte groups 32. Accordingly, the electrolyte layer 38 need not be formed to be thick and a sufficient amount of gas (oxygen in this case) is supplied to each catalyst at all times.
