Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode for a high pressure discharge lamp in which the effect of removing impurities owing to the high temp. heat treatment of the electrode is obtained in a manner compatible with a sufficient mechanical strength.
SOLUTION: A high pressure discharge lamp is formed of an electrode containing tungsten metal and at least one sort of additive wherein the shape of crystal grain at least in the part in contact with the light emitting tube sealing material of the root part 3 of electrode meets the condition L/W>5, where L is the grain length and W is the grain width, in the range excluding the forefront part of the electrode as a continuous part including the electrode forefront surface supporting the discharge.
