Abstract:

To prevent a discharge path from being affected by sticking of glass etc. by specifying a tip part where discharge is carried out while a specified part of an electrode rod is covered with an insulator.

At least one of a couple of electrode rods 13 and 19 for discharging which are used to connect an optical fiber by fusion splicing has at least its part other than the tip covered with the insulator to hold discharge in a specified discharge path. Consequently, the position where the discharge is carried out is limited to only tip parts 17 and 23. The discharge is carried out between the couple of electrode rods 13 and 19. Consequently, sticking of glass is removed to maintain the stable discharge path.
