To improve the stability of a secondary battery in charging/discharging and to increase the capacity by using a specific Li compound which is obtained by substituting Mn with the number of atoms X contained in lithium manganese with Cu with the number of atoms X for the positive electrode.
The value of X in LiCuxMn2-xO4 is set to 0.02 to 0.2. An electrode is manufactured as follows: Powder of manganese dioxide, lithium carbonate and copper oxide is mixed followed by baking at 700-800°C. Ceramic of LiCuxMn2-xO4 based compound with X within the range is to form powder 10 μm in the mean grain size. It is further pulverized into the fine powder 1 μm in the mean grain size and mixed with a resin binder and fine carbon black powder 0.1 μm in the grain size and formed into the electrode. For example, polyvinylidene fluoride, etc., are used as the resin binder.
