Title:
ELECTRODE STRUCTURE FOR ELECTRICALLY MELTING FURNACE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3494493
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To keep the temperature in a furnace almost uniform as desired or keep the temperature higher near a gate by switching connection between the side of a power source and furnace bottom electrodes to make the direction of arcs and the path of a current between the electrodes and an upper electrode free to move.
CONSTITUTION: When a DC voltage is applied to an upper electrode 3 and furnace bottom electrodes 4a-4c, arcs 6a and 6b are generated between the upper electrode 3 and the furnace bottom electrodes 4a-4c and material to be melted housed in a furnace is melted to make a molten metal. By switching the connection between the furnace bottom electrodes 4a-4c and the side of a power source 7 with an electrode switch 8, the arcs 6a and 6b are generated between the upper electrode 3 and the furnace bottom electrodes 4a-4c newly connected. As a result, with the switching of the connection between the furnace bottom electrodes 4a-4c and the side of the power source 7, the direction of the arcs 6a and 6b and the path of a current are moved to a desired point. This can keep the temperature in the furnace at almost an even value as desired or keep the temperature higher near a gate.
