To provide an electrodeposition coating composition which can form a coating film having not only excellent external appearance, solvent resistance and corrosion resistance equal to those of the conventional 3-coat film but also excellent impact resistance (resistance to chipping) and excels in the storage stability of the coating and, simultaneously, can form a novel multilayer construction useful in the 3-wet-1-baking coating method to aim at the shortening of coating process, the cost reduction, and the lowering in the environmental load.
The electrodeposition coating composition comprises particles A containing a resin a having a solubility parameter of δa and particles B containing a resin b having a solubility parameter of δb and a curing agent, and (1) the (δa-δb) value is ≥1.0; (2) the dynamic glass transition temperature of the resin film to be formed from the above particles A out of the electrodeposition coating films to be formed from the above electrodeposition coating composition is -110 to 10°C and the elongation of the coating film to be obtained by the film formation of the above particles A alone is ≥200%; and (3) the dynamic glass transition temperature of the resin film to be formed from the above particles B out of the electrodeposition coating films to be formed from the above electrodeposition coating composition is 60 to 150°C.
