To obtain an electroluminescent element which comprises a first transparent electrode, an org. layer, and a second electrode laminated on a transparent substrate, is excellent in heat resistance and durability, and can form, by vapor deposition, a high-purity hole transport layer by incorporating a specific polymer into the org. layer.
This element is produced by by successively laminating the first transparent electrode (e.g. an ITO electrode), an org. layer mainly comprising an org. compd. which emits light under a voltage applied, and the second electrode (e.g. an Mg metal electrode) on a transparent substrate (e.g. a glass substrate). The org. layer contains a polymer (e.g. one represented by the formula) which pref. has a degree of polymn. of 3-7 and has, as the base units, units derived from a hole transport molecule having arom. rings (e.g. triphenylamine). The arom. rings of a base unit have been bonded to those of the other base units directly or through unsatd. side chains.
