Title:
ELECTROLUMINESCENT ELEMENT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH03223387
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain an electroluminescent element which makes it possible for an organic phosphor to efficiently emit light with high luminance, by providing a hole transfer layer and a specified luminescent phosphor layer comprising a thin film of a phosphor containing a stilbene compound between a cathode and an anode.

CONSTITUTION: In this electroluminescent element, a thin aluminum film having a thickness of 1500 is used for a metallic electrode 1 serving as cathode. A metal having a small work function, e.g. Al, Mg, In, Ag or an alloy thereof, having a thickness of about 500 or greater can also be used for the cathode 1. Between the metallic electrode 1 and a transparent electrode, laminated thin organic phosphor film 7 and organic hole transfer layer 4 are arranged. As the thin organic phosphor film 7, a thin film of a phosphor containing a stilbene compound which has a carbon-carbon skeleton containing double bonds, a cyclic structure containing double bonds, and at least two conjugated double bond systems having one single bond lying between the double bond of the carbon-carbon skeleton and the double bond of the cyclic structure is used.
